The Kutani ware is noted for its Ginsai (silver glaze) technique, which showcases a sophisticated color that is challenging to describe. This involves applying transparent glaze or five-color glaze over silver foil, resulting in a design characterized by a subtle sparkle and a glass-like texture. Although the visual appeal suggests simplicity, the process is quite complex, requiring an additional firing in the kiln. Notably, the technique uses silver that is seven times thicker than standard silver foil due to melting concerns, making it a luxurious method.
Kutani ware is recognized globally as one of Japan's three major colored porcelains and is celebrated as a representative traditional craft of Japan, known as "Japan Kutani."
