Kutani-yaki technique — “Mori”:
This piece uses a special Kutani-yaki technique called “Mori,” applied with a distinctive tool called “一珍” (ichin). It uses a raised “deco-mori” paint that creates a pronounced, bumpy relief—so tactile it might even feel like a light massage. “Mori” demands advanced skill and is very time-consuming; few artisans practice it today, making such works increasingly rare. Kutani ware is one of Japan’s three major colored overglaze porcelains and is internationally esteemed as the traditional craft “Japan Kutani.”
Recommended as a gift for: housewarmings, store openings, construction completion celebrations, company relocations, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Respect-for-the-Aged Day, retirements, milestone birthdays and anniversaries (e.g., kanreki/60, koki/70, kiju/77, sanju/80, beiju/88), birthdays, and other gifting occasions.
