Kutani ware is recognized worldwide as one of Japan's three main colored porcelain styles and as a representative traditional craft known as "Japan Kutani." The fusion of Kutani ware and Kanazawa gold leaf (gold foil) is significant; Kanazawa produces 98% of the nation’s gold leaf and an astounding 100% of the silver leaf. Achieving a gold leaf thickness of 1/10,000 mm while maintaining its luster and uniformity requires exceptional skill. Craftsmen can extend a piece the size of a 10-yen coin to cover an entire tatami mat. The moist climate and excellent water quality of Kanazawa contribute to the high quality of the gold leaf.
