Introduction to the painting style of Kutani ware: The "Old Kutani" (Kokutani) was promoted by the Daishoji Domain around the time of Meireki (1655) during the early period established by Goto Saijiro (about 360 years ago). It was developed under the guidance of the master painter of the Kano school, Morikage Kusumi, and employs five colors: blue (green), yellow, red, purple, and deep blue. The bold composition, artistically completed, and the free yet delicate lines can be said to represent the quintessential style of Kutani ware.

Kutani ware is highly regarded globally as one of Japan's three major color-painted ceramics and represents traditional Japanese craftsmanship under the name 'Japan Kutani.’

This is a photogenic and popular piece from the Seiko kiln's "Mamezara Masterpiece Collection (single piece)." It is a palm-sized vessel that is ideal for everyday use as a soy sauce dish or for serving food. The Mamezara Masterpiece Collection features small plates designed with renowned Kutani ware masterpieces that you might find in a museum. They are stylish Japanese tableware that will brighten up your dining table!
