Introduction to the painting style of Kutani ware: The “Kokutani” style, established around 360 years ago by Gohto Saijiro, was promoted by the Daishoji Domain around the Meireki period (1655). It was guided by the renowned Japanese painter Kano Togyu, and uses five colors: blue (green), yellow, red, purple, and cobalt blue. Its bold compositions are artistically completed with free yet delicate lines, making it a quintessential representation of Kutani.
Kutani ware is highly regarded worldwide as one of Japan's three major colored porcelain styles and represents the traditional craft of 'Japan Kutani.'
