Introduction to the painting style of Kutani ware: The early Kutani style, known as "Kokutani," was promoted by the Daishoji Domain around the Meireki era (1655) and was founded by Goto Saijiro approximately 360 years ago. It was guided by the famous painter of the Kanō school, Motonobu Kumagai, and utilizes five colors: blue (green), yellow, red, purple, and deep blue. The bold composition is artistically completed, with free yet delicate lines, making it a quintessential representation of Kutani's painting style.
Kutani ware is highly regarded worldwide as one of Japan's three major color-enameled ceramics and as a representative traditional craft of Japan, "Japan Kutani."
