Glass is sensitive to sudden temperature changes, so avoid rapid heating or cooling. Do not use in a microwave, oven, dishwasher, or dish dryer. Wash with dish detergent and gently clean using a soft sponge or cloth. Avoid scrubbing vigorously with metal scouring pads, as this may cause scratches and make the glass more likely to break.
These Edo Kiriko glasses feature two traditional patterns: **Yarai** and **Nanako**, combined with an engraving of a four-leaf clover. “Yarai” refers to a fence made by arranging bamboo or logs in an alternating pattern. Because yarai fences were used in the early stages of castle construction and stage set design, the pattern symbolizes “building a foundation” and “strengthening one’s base.” “Nanako,” meaning fish scales, conveys abundance and prosperity due to the large number of scales.
Both patterns have long been cherished in Japan as highly auspicious symbols. The four-leaf clover represents good fortune, love, sincerity, and hope, making this set an ideal gift or souvenir for visitors from overseas.
Edo Kiriko glassware originated during the Edo period and has been designated as a traditional Japanese craft, valued for preserving the lifestyle and culture of Edo-era Japan. Each piece is individually handcrafted by a skilled artisan.
